One Year of Handcrafted Wallpaper: Reflecting on Our First Year

ROBYNMABEL WSheader

After more than 15 years working with Luke in the fashion industry, creating prints and developing collections, we decided to channel that experience into something we had been dreaming about for a long time: a business dedicated to handcrafted wallpaper and thoughtfully designed interiors.

As Curate Space celebrates its first anniversary, I wanted to take a moment to reflect.

Where Our Story Began

Before Curate Space, Luke and I developed a deep appreciation for pattern, colour and storytelling, and how a carefully considered design can evoke emotion and create connection.

When we began planning Curate Space, we found ourselves revisiting some of our favourite archived designs. We spent countless hours looking through vintage books, historical references and original artworks, refreshing old favourites, exploring new colourways and imagining how these designs could be reinterpreted as handcrafted wallpaper for the home.

A Year of Bringing Handcrafted Wallpaper to Life

Whether it’s a floral motif painted with watercolour, a botanical study inspired by nature, or a pattern developed from a vintage reference, every piece starts as original artwork before becoming handcrafted wallpaper.

Over the last twelve months, we’ve had the privilege of seeing our designs find homes in beautiful spaces.  We’ve worked with interior designers, homeowners and businesses looking for something unique, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to see our handcrafted wallpaper become part of their stories too.

Eva Off White: A Standout Favourite

Every collection develops its own personality, and for us, Eva Off White has undoubtedly been one of the defining designs of our first year.

Its soft watercolour movement, timeless palette and versatility have made it a firm favourite amongst our clients. Seeing Eva appear in so many different interiors has been a wonderful reminder of why we started Curate Space in the first place: to create handcrafted wallpaper that feels both artistic and easy to live with.

Expanding Beyond Wallpaper

While wallpaper remains at the heart of what we do, this year has also seen our collections grow in exciting new ways.

Many of our original designs are now available as fabric and art prints, allowing clients to layer patterns and artwork throughout their interiors. Watching our designs evolve beyond wallpaper has opened up new creative opportunities. It’s exciting to think that what started as a handcrafted wallpaper collection has grown into something much broader.

Recognition We Never Expected

One of the biggest highlights of our first year has been seeing Curate Space featured in publications we’ve admired for years.

Being featured in The English Home, Period Living, SheerLuxe, Business of Home and Homes & Gardens has been incredibly special.

Opening Our Studio Doors

This year also marked our first creative workshop.

We welcomed interior designers and influencers into the studio to experience our process first hand, from floral painting techniques to exploring our archive of vintage books, original prints and design references.

For me, it reinforced something I’ve always believed: people connect with the story behind design just as much as the finished product. They love understanding where ideas come from, how designs are created and what inspires the finished collection.

It’s definitely something we’d love to do more of in the future.

Looking Ahead

As I reflect on our first year, I feel incredibly grateful.

Grateful for everyone who has ordered samples, chosen our handcrafted wallpaper for their homes and projects, attended a workshop, shared our work, featured us in publications or simply followed our journey.

Curate Space may be celebrating its first birthday, but in many ways it feels like we’re only just getting started.

Thank you for being part of our story so far.

Here’s to the next chapter.
